ESCAPE TO SALZBURG

WHY GO?

A winter break in postcard-pretty Salzburg gives you all the magic of a fairy tale, with the UNESCO-listed Old Town dusted in snow, twinkling markets in medieval squares, and a host of Advent activities.

Once titled the 'Rome of the North' due to its grand churches and Italian-style architecture, Salzburg was originally settled by Benedictine monks. Growing wealthy in the 15th and 16th centuries through the trade in salt, it became part of Austria in 1815. Today, it's known for its musical legacy as the home of Mozart and the Von Trapp family, immortalised on film in The Sound of Music.
