With this milestone, India achieved 50 percent of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil sources in June 2025.

India's total installed power generation capacity reached 505,023 MW as on October 31, 2025, with non-fossil fuel sources accounting for a majority share. Of the total capacity, 259,423 MW now comes from non-fossil sources, including 250,643 MW of renewable energy, while 245,600 MW is based on fossil fuels. Minister of State for Power, Shripad Yesso Naik, informed Lok Sabha in a written reply.
