Industry adopts XLPE-based EHV cables for better performance

How is the industry engineering cables and accessories amid the rapid expansion of solar and wind?

India’s renewable energy capacity has crossed 247.3 GW, supported by an estimated 748 GW of solar potential and 1163.9 GW of wind potential. With generation now inherently variable, the power system requires cabling infrastructure that can withstand intermittency, fluctuating loads, and diverse site conditions, from arid solar parks to coastal wind corridors. The industry is rapidly adopting XLPE-based EHV cables, fibre-integrated power cables for real-time health monitoring, and EP-rated weather-resistant cables that maintain performance under UV exposure, salt-laden winds, and moisture. Features such as anti-tracking jackets, UV-stabilised insulation, and moisture detection layers now extend cable life and reduce operational risk. In wind assets, torsion-resistant loop cables support rotational stress, while prefabricated termination kits and plug-and-play assemblies accelerate commissioning and minimise downtime.
