RAISING A TOAST TO A GLORY RUN

IT'S BEEN 70 years since York City reached the FA Cup semi-finals - and now a group of surviving fans are set for a big celebration to mark the historic occasion.

The idea of supporter Dave Smith, the York City Supporters Trust have lent their support after hearing about the special suggestion to celebrate the anniversary in style.

Backed by 21,000 fans back on March 25, 1955, the Minstermen held Newcastle United to a replay after a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough, becoming the first third tier side ever to do so.

And although they lost the replay 2-0 at Sunderland's Roker Park, the epic run lives long in the memory for those in the stands cheering on their side.

So next month, 33 supporters will be hosted by the YCST in the National League club's Jorvik Lounge when they take on Wealdstone.
