Until Carl Benz invented world's first automobile, the three-wheeled Motorwagen, in 1886, humans primarily used their legs to travel. Then there were also domesticated animals such as horses and camels, and carts and chariots that took people from one place to the other. But things completely changed when motor vehicles came into use
So much so that motor transport is entwined deeply with human life. An estimate by experts claims that, today, there are about 1.5 billion vehicles on the world's roads and it is expected to double in a few decades. With exponential growth and evolution in the automobile industry nearly 60% of the oil produced on earth is used for transportation alone.
According to the IEA (International Energy Agency), an intergovernmental institution which is into energy policies and analysis, transport sector accounts about 37% of global emission as vehicles across the world run largely on oil or petrol or gas that fumes dirty gases such as carbon dioxide which in turn greatly induces global warming. Obviously humanity can never sacrifice traveling to save earth, but at the same time it is much concerned about the climate issues. Hence, humankind is striving frantically to address this conundrum.
