THE cost of school kitchen and dining hall upgrades so that every primary pupil gets a free meal has almost doubled in Swansea.

It was originally expected to cost £5.86m but the final bill is now anticipated to be £11.48m due to construction prices rising sharply and more work being needed than first thought, among other things.
