EMERGENCY services attended two properties in a Welsh city after reports of separate assaults within minutes of each other.

Police officers and ambulance crews were called to the scenes of two alleged assaults at separate addresses in Newport.

A white man in his 40s is believed to have entered homes in Lliswerry Road and Moorland Park at around 7am on Saturday and assaulted the occupants.

Two men, one aged 49 and another aged 53, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The Welsh Ambulance Service transferred the patients to hospital, while Gwent Police officers put a cordon around the properties. Crime scene investigators attended the scene and remained there for the entire day.
