West is best for fests

WE are now approaching the festival season and, in particular, Glastonbury.

This year due to circumstances I needed to obtain tickets via the accessibility route. Applying early on I was put in touch with their accessibility team who were quite superb.

There was a lot of paperwork and applications to submit but with their help they took us through the different processes. I was quite amazed by the facilities that were available for those with accessibility issues.

Talking to one of their team at Worthy Farm I was told they used strict security to make sure that all accessible applications are genuine.

In our case there had to be paperwork from medical sources. If I remember correctly, we applied via something known as the Nimbus scheme which then provides authorisation for other major events and made things so much easier. We had no issues when we attended the Abba Voyage event in London.

Glastonbury provides a variety of excellent support services for different disabilities whether hidden or apparent. These include quiet routes around the site, special access to toilets and areas set aside for those with different accessibility issues. Once the event is over, I will let you know how we got on.
