Axe Vale Arts Centre stages an open day of activities

THE former Methodist Church in Axbridge - also known as a chapel - will reopen as an arts centre as the former place of worship is transformed into an arts centre, writes Harry Mottram.

‘The brainchild of residents Paul Hughes and Pete Harding, the building was declared redundant by the church authorities last year due to falling congregation numbers and planned to put it up for sale. On Sunday, July 6, the newly renamed ‘Axe Vale Arts Centre will open with a launch day when residents can experience a taste of what is to come as anumber of activities are outlined in the coming weeks. On the day there is a programme of events to showcase some of what is likely to happen - with an art exhibition, live folk music and theatre along with poetry readings and choral music and jazz. The launch day starts at 1pm on Sunday and continues through to the evening with nonalcoholic refreshments available with money raised going towards the building’s upkeep and renovation.
