AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD boy has petitioned for a national bank holiday to mark the 100th birthday of David Attenborough next year - and has amassed more than 20,000 signatures.
Lyle Porretta started the petition two weeks ago for an assignment given to him by his school.
He was tasked to research Sir David and discovered that next year marked his 100th birthday.
As part of his homework, Lyle set up the petition calling for a bank holiday to mark the occasion.
The petition describes it as a "way to honour his incredible contributions to our planet" every year.
It was shared by his mum Sophie, 36, and a few close friends and family who "loved the idea".
Lyle "thought nothing of it" until it reached 20,000 signatures 10 days after it was set up. Amazed by the support, the wildlife lover hopes it encourages others to "fight for our planet" and to continue the legacy of the biologist and TV presenter.
