Oz star boosts royal pal's mission

Prince William uses his profile to make the world a better place for future generations, says fellow conservationist Robert Irwin.

The son of late TV wildlife expert Steve Irwin praised the royal's Earthshot awards for inspiring the next generation of eco-warriors.

Speaking at the start of London Climate Action week - when they are due to join forces again - he offered a rare insight into William who turned 43 yesterday.

He told us: "I love being around passionate people, it inspires me. The prince is just that - passionate, curious and thoughtful.

"I've been fortunate enough to share many great discussions about the things we love about the natural world. It's clear that he has a profound love for wildlife and wild places."

The 21-year-old Aussie heart-throb was just two when his dad - best known for his TV show The Crocodile Hunter - was killed aged 44 by a stingray while filming a documentary off Queensland in 2006.

Now Robert is famous around the world himself with a huge internet following and frequent TV appearances.

He continues his father's legacy by helping to run Australia Zoo and the family's Wildlife Warriors conservation charity.

Since last September Robert has also been spreading William's message of hope by becoming an ambassador for the prince's Earthshot awards.

They were launched in 2021 and run until 2030 with £5million dished out each year.

Five of the best game-changing innovations to help repair our planet are chosen from 15 finalists to win £1m each.

In addition, the programme works throughout the year to build public awareness, bring in investment and provide mentorship to winners and finalists.
