About 10,000 Ukrainians living in 'dire conditions' amid conflict

According to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), approximately 10,000 Ukrainian people have been living in appalling conditions due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and their neighbour.

A key objective in Russia's winter campaign to fully conquer Ukraine's industrialised Donbas area is the eastern city of Bakhmut. The biggest battle in the recent Russia-Ukraine war took place there as well. Despite the fact that both sides have lost thousands of men, the Russian onslaught has so far made little headway.
"For the civilians that are stuck there, they are living in very dire conditions, spending almost the entire days in intense shelling in the shelters," the ICRC's Umar Khan said at a news briefing on Friday.
