22 out of 222 hospitals earmarked by Centre for transfer to states are in Bengal, unions oppose move

Twenty-two hospitals in West Bengal are among the 222 hospitals across India identified by the central government for transfer to their respective state governments.
The process of transferring administrative control of these hospitals – currently under eleven different central ministries and covered by the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) – has recently begun. The administrative responsibilities will shift from the National Health Authority (NHA) to the State Health Agencies (SHA).
The NHA's Operations Division has published the list of hospitals. The largest share belongs to Indian Railways with 77 hospitals, followed by 25 under the Ministry of Coal, 16 under the Labour Ministry, 13 under the Ministry of Power, 10 under the Ministry of Steel, 7 under Heavy Industries, 3 under Defence, 2 each under the Ministries of Mines and Shipping, and 32 under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
