Warning after fire at park
The Sentinel
|April 24, 2025
THIS was the scene of devastation after arsonsits started a fire in a Stoke-on-Trent park.
A warning has been issued after a number of bonfires and barbecues have been lit at sites including Hanley Park and Fenton Park this spring.
One incident at Hanley Park led to significant damage and endangered wildlife habitats after a 'dead' hedgerow planted to increase biodiversity was set alight. Now visitors are being urged to report any illegal fires.
Station manager Ant Ball, from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We are urging the public to take extra care when enjoying outdoor spaces, especially as warmer weather increases the risk of accidental fires.
"Fires not only cause significant damage to our natural environment, but also place a considerable strain on emergency resources that may be needed elsewhere.
