Tributes to 'kindhearted' Ishan after river tragedy

WARM tributes have been paid to a “kindhearted and ambitious” young man from Huddersfield, who died while taking part in a river activity during a trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bank worker Ishan Naeem, 21, had travelled to Bosnia with his brother and friends and was taking part in an organised excursion involving ‘canyoning’ - navigating down a river - when tragedy struck on June 12.

Ishan had been above a slide, or a drop in the rocks, when he was seen to go down head first, Bradford Coroners’ Court heard yesterday.

According to witness, Ishan appeared to get wedged upside down. He was under the water for 30-45 minutes and was then given CPR before the arrival of the rescue services, but sadly he could not be saved. The provisional cause of death was given as drowning, the court heard. Assistant coroner Caroline Chandler adjourned the hearing for further statements to be taken. The inquest into Ishan’s death is expected to be concluded in October.
