Care homes fight is 'far from over'

CAMPAIGNERS PLAN TO APPEAL AFTER JUDICIAL REVIEW INTO SELL OFF GOES AGAINST THEM

CAMPAIGNERS say the fight to stop Kirklees' dementia care homes being sold off is far from over despite a judicial review ruling going against them.

Despite masses of opposition, Kirklees Council made the final decision to transfer its last two dementia care homes, at Claremont House in Heckmondwike and Castle Grange in Newsome, to the private sector back in February. The local authority had originally hoped to complete the sale in April of this year.

Campaigners from Save Our Dementia Care Homes questioned many aspects of the council's process including transparency and their financial rationale. They pursued a judicial review which examined the legality of the council's decision. Now, the judge has delivered the verdict, ruling against campaigners.
