Phase one of Armada Way ready 'in a month'
The Herald
|June 30, 2025
WORK on the first phase of the ambitious £30m redevelopment of Plymouth’s Armada Way is expected to be complete by the end of next month. Trees have been planted in the section from Mayflower Street to North Cross and paving is being laid.
There are steps for what will become an “amphitheatre performance space” outside the Copthorne Hotel. Granite seating will be put on top of this. Plymouth City Centre company told businesses it would allow more events to take place and make for a better gateway to the city centre.
In a statement to businesses, the City Centre Company said: “Work on phase one of the Armada Way redevelopment is nearing completion... This section is due to be completed by the end of July.
“New trees and planting are in place and much of the paving is now complete. New granite benches for the amphitheatre steps arrive soon.
“The new performance space will give us and partners the opportunity to put on even more events and activities and we will be able to see the full potential of a much more welcoming and contemporary gateway into the city centre.”
Trees planted as part of the £30m Armada Way redevelopment. Plymouth City Council said trees were being planted in the top compound of Armada Way with “magnificent Magnolia Kobus turning heads with their arrival’. Four Kobus are being planted together with three Field Maples, four Love Trees and five Gingko Biloba.
