January 10, 2016, was the day the most provocative, enigmatic and influential force in modern music left us. David Bowie was gone.

The news that shocked the world came two days after the release of a new record, Blackstar, his 26th studio album. An experimental blend of jazz, electronica, art rock and crytpic lyrics, it was the perfect swansong for an ever-elusive artistic presence.

For those who thought Bowie's years of invention were behind him, it was a reminder of how challenging and creative he could be at his best. For fans, it was an emotional farewell loaded with knowing references and allusions to his imminent demise.
