COLLEGE SEEKS FURTHER TALKS OVER UNION WAGE RISE DEMANDS
STAFF at City College Plymouth are to stage a 10-day strike with union bosses claiming workers are so poorly paid some are skipping meals to make ends meet.
The University and College Union (UCU) said the Kings Road-based college is one of 26, including Cornwall's Truro & Penwith College, set to take part in industrial action unless employers introduce a significant pay rise to deal with the cost-of-living crisis.
The action will amount to the biggest set of strikes ever in further education. City College Plymouth said it is willing to negotiate further in a bid to halt the industrial action.
But if that fails, the strikes will take place over four weeks in the first half term of the academic year. The full dates of strike action are:
Week 1: Monday 26, Tuesday 27, and Wednesday 28 September (three days); Week 2: Thursday 6 and Friday 7 October (two days); Week 3: Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 October (two days); Week 4: Tuesday 18 Wednesday, 19 and Thursday 20 October (three days).
