YOU'VE heard of a basking shark, but how about a Basket Shark? If you've never seen one of those, then you can see one now at Royal William Yard.

- By ANDY PHILLIPS

The 20ft wicker shark has been created as part of the launch of Shark Month and has now arrived at the Shark Trust Popup Shop as part of a programme of awareness, art and advocacy activities.

The impressive sculpture is a handcrafted, life-size basking shark created by Falmouth University's Duncan Cameron from salvaged bamboo, willow, and pallet wood.

It is just one of a series of activities and events for Shark Month, which is a partnership between Royal William Yard and Plymouth-based international conservation charity the Shark Trust.

Paul Cox, CEO of the Shark Trust, said: “We were absolutely thrilled with the response to last year's inaugural Shark Month at Royal William Yard - it exceeded all our expectations and really demonstrated people’s appetite for engaging with sharks, rays and ocean conservation.
