Stars sparkle in silver and scarlet at Emmy awards

FOR some people it’s the arrival of Pumpkin Spice lattes in Starbucks. For others it's the Strictly launch show. But nothing heralds the arrival of autumn for me like a glammed-up A-lister sobbing and thanking their agent with a shiny statuette in their hand.

Yes, awards season has begun. For the film and TV industry the next six months will be a whirl of expensive rocks, frocks and maybe a few shocks, until it comes to a glittering end mid-March with the daddy of all awards ceremonies - the Oscars.

The fun got under way on Sunday with the Primetime Emmy awards in Los Angeles. As the name suggests they celebrate the best of primetime television and by now you probably know there was something of a British invasion with Adolescence scooping six gongs.

Christine Tremarco, who played mum Manda in the gritty Netflix drama, definitely came dressed to impress. The 48-year-old Liverpool-born actress, who has rarely been off our screens over the last 30 years, looked dazzling in a sparkling silver dress and cape.
