WORKING from home, there are days when I spend far too long staring out of the window.
I call it searching for inspiration. My husband calls it being nosey.
Either way, after five years at a desk in the spare room which faces the street, I've discovered a great deal more about my neighbour-hood than I ever did in the 20 plus years of living here before Covid put paid to traditional office life.
So I know when the neighbour's kids are late for school (door slam before the news headlines - fine but after? They'll never make the bell).
I notice too when the bloke with the beard is missing from his daily dog walk - same time, same route, same lamppost.
I've seen old neighbours depart and new ones arrive, watched as house extensions have gone up and trees come down and on one memorable occasion was able to give a description of a potential burglar to the police.
