Enforcement vehicle gets a £99k upgrade

A COUNCIL owned enforcement vehicle which captures footage of motorists flouting parking restrictions is being upgraded at a cost of nearly £100k, while a second car will shortly become operational.

Redcar and Cleveland Council said there were increasing problems with parking outside schools in particular in the borough with some drivers being described as “complacent”.

It said this had prompted continued safety concerns, while parking in bus stops was another area set to be subject to increased monitoring, which in some instances blocked passengers from being picked up and dropped off.

The local authority recently sanctioned spending amounting to £99,443 so that its existing vehicle can be fitted with new front and rear ‘stingray’ cameras, replacing the old ones which were not fully functioning.
