Conway needs refs on his side
The Gazette
|October 21, 2025
TOMMY Conway needs to do his damnest in future to keep his feet firmly on the ground in order not to be labelled a “diver” in referee circles.
-
Middlesbrough's effervescent striker should have had a penalty in the first half against Ipswich when he was clearly man handled to the ground.
You couldn't help thinking that the ref ignored obvious spot kick claims because Conway has already had several fouls against him turned down because there is a perception that he is going to ground too easily.
I don’t think for one minute that Conway had an agenda to hit the deck every time there is contact with opposition players. However, sometimes you wonder whether, when refs get together for a cuppa, they discuss such matters.
