Compensation for workplace accidents

- STUART GILLESPIE

Cash pay-outs for the council

Dumfries and Galloway Council had to fork out more than £140,000 in compensation for workplace accidents in just two years.

Nothing has yet been paid out in 2024/25 as not all claims had been settled.

More than 20 claims have been submitted since the start of 2022.

Assaults, slips, trips and falls and problems moving heavy objects are among the reasons for the claims.

The figures were released following freedom of information requests by personal injury claims specialists JF Law.

Solicitor Lucy Parker said: "Councils, like all employers, have a legal obligation and owe a significant duty of care to safeguard their workforce and prevent them from harm.
