British Empire accolade for services to Early Years Childcare

- JACKIE GRANT

Dalbeattie grandmother Kate Kaye said being recognised in the King's New Year's Honours list has made her"entire life".

Kate, 77, will receive the British Empire Medal for services to Early Years Childcare after dedicating her life to little people.

She said: "When I received the letter from the Commonwealth Office telling me I had been awarded the BEM I couldn't speak. I just couldn't believe it.

"My daughter Ashleigh, who lives in Australia, said I deserve the medal for keeping my mouth shut about it for two months.

"I am both humbled and proud in equal measure. This has made my whole life.

"My family are thrilled, and my mum and dad will be birling with pride in Crossmichael Cemetery.
