Calls for national park 'plan B'

The Scottish Government is being urged to come up with a plan B after rejecting the idea of a Galloway National Park.

Following a consultation by NatureScot, Rural Affairs Secretary Mairi Gougeon announced the process would not continue as it was felt there was a lack of support for the idea.

While that move was welcomed by opponents, supporters are furious that the region will miss out on an estimated £10 million a year in Scottish Government funding.

Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson met Ms Gougeon last week and now South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth has added his voice to those calling for action to ensure Galloway isn’t forgotten.
