No longer wanting party-lists to be used by huge companies and political families, Senator Bam Aquino has filed Senate Bill No. 1559 or the Party-List Reform Act.
-
According to the official Senate of the Philippines website, Aquino cited a 2025 study by election watchdog Kontra Daya that said that 86 of the 156 party-lists accredited in the last election had links to political dynasties or large corporations. And 40 of those won seats.
"The party-list system is being exploited by the powerful at the expense of those it was designed to uplift," he said.
Well, this is good and all when it comes to party-lists. We can see how many of them don’t really represent poor or marginalized sectors. Some of them even represent political groups or parts of the country that already have adequate representation.
