Capitol expands scholarship program

More Cebuano aspiring to pursue college will soon have greater access to educational support as the Cebu Province expands its scholarship program—boosting the slots from 100 per board member to an additional 3,500 under the offices of the governor and vice governor.

The revised measure, sponsored by Second District Provincial Board (PB) Member Raymond Joseph D. Calderon, chairman of the Committee on Education, earmarked 3,500 more scholarship slots for the Office of the Governor and the Office of the Vice Governor, on top of the existing allocations for PB members.

Under the amendment, the governor's office will be given 2,500 slots, while the vice governor's office will receive 1,000. The current allocation of 100 slots per board member remains in place.

Calderon explained that many students and parents often go directly to the offices of the governor and vice governor to request educational assistance.

By formally granting these offices scholarship allocations, the program will be able to respond to more constituents.
