Water row: Haryana seeks 10,300 cusecs over worsening crisis

A severe drinking water crisis has hit the southern districts in Haryana as the water dispute with Punjab deepens following the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government in the neighbouring state refusing to increase flow of water from the Bhakra dam from 4500 cusecs.

As per ground reports, for lack of canal water several water supply plants across the southern districts have completely dried up, affecting water supply in many urban and rural areas -especially in south Haryana, including Sirsa, Rohtak, Mahendragarh, Charkhi Dadri, and Bhiwani.

The situation has weakened the water rationing system managed by the Public Health Department.

Currently, water is being supplied in cities only once a day, while villages are getting water on alternate days.

In some places, the government has resorted to using water tankers and tube wells to quench people's thirst.
