A COLLECTION of avian art is being auctioned by the conservation charity the artist helped to create.

Works sold for trust artist founded

The Cornwall Wildlife Trust is selling part of a collection of paintings by Valentine Stewart Paton (1925-2012), a founding member of the charity, to raise funds for its conservation work.

"Known affectionately as Pat, his stunning, detailed, illustrative paintings reflect a lifelong love of nature," a trust spokesperson said.

"The paintings were donated to the charity by Pat's wife Jean Paton, who together with Pat helped establish the charity in 1962.

"Jean is the last living founder of the trust, and together she and Pat contributed more than 22,000 wildlife sightings to various local and national wildlife recording projects.
