WOMAN WAS ISOLATED FROM FRIENDS AND FAMILY

- By Poppy Kennedy

Domestic abuser left his victim 'feeling worthless'

Nicky Gamble

A DOMESTIC abuse survivor says her “whole body gave way under the weight of years of fear, stress and survival” after her former partner was found guilty.

Nicky Gamble was jailed for 20 months at Durham Crown Court in June.

‘Ajury found him guilty of engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour towards his former partner.

Along with jail time, the 38-year-old was also handed a restraining order preventing him from contacting the woman for seven years.

Now Charlotte - whose name has been changed to protect her identity - has spoken out to help others facing domestic abuse.

She said: “The last five months of that relationship were the worst of my life, which I'll never forget)’ she said.

“I didn’t know what he would do next and wanted to keep myself and our daughter safe. He physically and emotionally abused me most days, even in front of our young daughter.

“Words can’t describe what he's done to my head,” she added. “Most days I feel blank and wonder if I'll ever be the same as before I met this man.”

Sharing her story, Durham Constabulary outlined how Gamble had been with Charlotte for a few months when he began to isolate her from her friends and family.
