Teacher is struck off for keeping child sex abuse video on phone

William Gee kept the vile video on his phone for a year after a potential lover he had been speaking to online sent it to him.

The 32-year-old was so 'desperate' for affection that he continued talking to the paedophile after being shown the disturbing content - and did not raise the alarm with police.

He was said to have been in a 'fragile' state of mind at the time and was 'scared' of losing interest from the sex offender who he believed he was forming 'genuine connection' with.

A Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) misconduct panel has now said Gee breached teaching standards with the 'one-off incident' and his actions amounted to 'serious' misconduct.

Gee was head of music at St Benedict's Catholic High School, Alcester, Warwickshire, between January 2020 and December 2023. He previously worked at a Birmingham school, leading the music department.

A panel heard how the teacher started talking online to a person known only as 'Individual A' with their conversations eventually moving to WhatsApp.

Gee received a video from Individual A in October 2022 who had filmed of themselves carrying out a sexual act in front of a 15-year-old child.
