BIRTHDAY WIN WOULD BE MY ICING ON CAKE

ALEX SAMUEL hit a landmark in Partick Thistle history last week when he became the first Welshman to score for the Jags in over a century.

But the Firhill hitman is hoping for an even bigger milestone today - by celebrating his 30th birthday weekend with Thistle's first win over Celtic in 30 years.

Samuel got off the mark by hitting the winner against Airdrie in his fourth appearance since joining from Ross County.

Thistle anoraks were quick to point out the Neath-born hitman was the first Welsh player to net for the club since Maurice Parry way back in 1910.

But if that was good, then Samuel admits sending the Hoops spinning out the League Cup a day after his big birthday would be the icing on the cake.

He said: "I couldn't believe it last week. My father-in-law put it into our group chat - 1910, the last Welshman to score - so I'm glad to break that drought!
