FIVE-MINUTE GUIDE TO... THIS SUMMER'S HOLIDAY MONEY
SORTING out your holiday money might not be the most exciting part of planning your summer break, but it is one of the most important.
Simple mistakes can be costly. It is all too easy to get stung by poor exchange rates and hidden fees when spending in foreign shops, bars or restaurants.
Richard Carter, CEO of low-cost payments app Lopay, is urging holidaymakers to sort their spending plans now, and order a better card in good time, if required.
Back home, most of us don't think twice about debit or credit card charges. It is a different story abroad.
A typical debit card charges £11.88 to withdraw £250 abroad, Moneyfacts says. Credit cards charge up to £14.99.
Even purchases aren't spared. Spend £50 on a typical debit card and you'll pay £2.76 in foreign usage fees. On a credit card, you could pay £3.
Carter shares six easy ways to keep more of your cash in your pocket.
Always pay in the local currency.
