Protests and celebrations across world as Trump strikes Iran

Hundreds of pro-democracy supporters gathered in Central London just hours after the US-Israeli air strikes which are believed to have killed Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

They chanted “Long live Iran! Long live Israel!” while waving pre-Islamic revolution Iranian flags alongside American and Israeli banners.

Some carried pictures of Reza Pahlavi, the son of the last Iranian Shah.

Pahlavi is currently exiled in the US and is an opponent of the current Iranian regime.

The former Crown Prince’s cousin, Davoud Pahlavi, also joined the demonstration.

The Stage of Freedom group of democracy activists, which opposed the Ayatollah, had called on supporters to march from Downing Street to the Iranian embassy yesterday afternoon.

Some of the people taking part in the march said they were worried about their loved ones still in Iran, who they had not been able to contact since Friday night.

The Stop The War In Iran Coalition staged a counter-demonstration to protest against the US and Israeli operation under the slogan “Hands Off Iran”.
