Residents 'left behind' with transport services

|June 18, 2025
A STOCKPORT councillor has said there is growing frustration from residents in parts of the borough who feel 'left behind.
Peter Crossen, representing Bramhall South and Woodford, said there are major concerns in the communities with bus and train services.
He highlighted issues at Bramhall railway station on Sundays, which Mr Crossen said has 'lacked a viable Sunday service for nearly 12 months'.
He also claimed that bus services have been 'significantly reduced' such as the withdrawn 307 and 308 routes, and said that the village of Woodford is served by 'just one bus per hour at peak times.
In a letter to Stockport council's new leader Mark Roberts, Coun Crossen called for urgent investment in public transport outside of the town centre, and said the current situation is 'simply not good enough.
The comments have come after Greater Manchester was awarded £2.5bn in funding for a range of transport projects, including extending Metrolink to Stockport town centre.
Stockport also has trains which run to Manchester city centre, and buses from its transport interchange which opened last year.
Coun Crossen wrote: "The announcement that the Stockport Metrolink extension has secured central government funding will no doubt be welcomed by many, particularly within the town hall.
