That felt quite unprofessional

Ruzaigh Gamildien played a pivotal role in helping Durban City secure promotion to the Betway Premiership, bringing experience, leadership, and quality to a determined squad. Under the guidance of coach Simo Dladla, the team achieved something special - rising from the Motsepe Foundation Championship with purpose and unity. But as quickly as the dream was realised, things changed behind the scenes. Shortly after the final whistle of a historic campaign, Dladla, the man who had steered the ship to promotion, was replaced by veteran coach Gavin Hunt. The decision taken by club chairman Farook Kadodia to make sweeping changes to the technical team and release several senior players, including Gamildien, raised eyebrows across the local football landscape. In this interview with Soccer Laduma's Masebe Qina, Gamildien reflects on a bittersweet chapter - one that saw professional triumph on the pitch followed by a surprisingly abrupt exit off it. He speaks about the bond with his teammates, the leadership of Dladla, and the message that ended his time at the club - a message delivered not in person, but via WhatsApp.

man’s handshake. But to be dismissed over WhatsApp? That felt quite unprofessional.
MQ: Do you mind sharing who actually sent the WhatsApp message?
RG: It was the chairman who sent the message. I had to double-check to make sure I was reading it correctly. Once I confirmed, that was all I needed to know, so I left it at that.
MQ: What was the reaction from your teammates or people close to you after the news?

South Americans are very fragile
Last weekend we saw Orlando Pirates make history by becoming the first Carling Knockout champions to beat the All-Stars team, after both Magesi FC and Stellenbosch FC failed to do so in the previous two seasons. Pirates were forced to play without several of their regulars as they are in camp in preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou's charges beat coach Manqoba Mngqithi's team 2-0 to be crowned champions, for the second time in a week. Congratulations to Bucs as they close the year on a high note.
