LUVHENGO MUNGOMENI (PART 1)
During his heyday, Luvhengo Mungomeni was a no-nonsense defender who took no prisoners with his tough tackles and ability to read the game. The 40-year-old had an illustrious professional career which started at Bush Bucks before joining his hometown team Black Leopards in 2006, where he spent two seasons. He finished the 2008 MTN8 final on the losing side. In 2011 he reunited with Igesund, this time at Moroka Swallows, and helped them win the 2012 MTN8 where they defeated SuperSport United. In the national team he also made his mark when he won the 2003 U20 COSAFA Cup tournament held in Tshwane. In 2004 he was part of the SASOL Wonke Wonke project, designed to spot talent for the 2008 Olympic qualifiers. South Americans are very fragile
Last weekend we saw Orlando Pirates make history by becoming the first Carling Knockout champions to beat the All-Stars team, after both Magesi FC and Stellenbosch FC failed to do so in the previous two seasons. Pirates were forced to play without several of their regulars as they are in camp in preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou's charges beat coach Manqoba Mngqithi's team 2-0 to be crowned champions, for the second time in a week. Congratulations to Bucs as they close the year on a high note.
