Delmain Faver: Sechaba, thank you so much, first of all, for agreeing to speak with us and, secondly, for welcoming us into your home. It’s something we don’t take lightly, and we truly appreciate your time.

Sechaba Mofokeng: Thanks a lot for visiting. It really means a lot to us, and I appreciate the interview. Let's hope everything goes well.

DF: Let’s hope so indeed. How does it feel to be Rele Mofokeng’s father?

SM: Thanks. It’s not easy, to be honest. Everyone keeps asking me how it feels to be his father, how I feel after his games or when he scores. But I'm proud. I really am. He’s never changed. Even though he's playing for one of the biggest clubs in South Africa now, he still listens to us as his parents. I'm proud that he still values our advice. Just yesterday I was scolding him, saying, “You missed clear chances. That's not good. Out of three, you need to score at least one.” That's how much we care.

DF: What was he like as a kid? We know he's still young, but what was he like growing up?

SM: He’s always been a homebody. Even now, he doesn't really have friends. He prefers to be at home with us. He’s always pulling us into games, especially PlayStation. We don't even know how to play, but he forces us. He'll beat us 13-0 and still laugh. He just wants to spend time with us. He always says, “One day, I'll be far away and you'll miss me. Let's spend time together now.” That's how he’s always been. And even when he was little and I didn’t like football at all - it hurt me too much - he kept begging to go train. I'd say no, but he’d convince his mom. After training, he'd come home excited, telling me how he played. Eventually, I had to support him because he truly loved it.

DF: When did you realise he had something special?

South Americans are very fragile

Last weekend we saw Orlando Pirates make history by becoming the first Carling Knockout champions to beat the All-Stars team, after both Magesi FC and Stellenbosch FC failed to do so in the previous two seasons. Pirates were forced to play without several of their regulars as they are in camp in preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou's charges beat coach Manqoba Mngqithi's team 2-0 to be crowned champions, for the second time in a week. Congratulations to Bucs as they close the year on a high note.
