Another own goal!

The powers-that-be at the Betway Premiership headquarters are at it again! A week after failing to reschedule league matches to make way for Mamelodi Sundowns’ first leg CAF Champions League match against Pyramids FC, the League has now opened itself to scrutiny by giving the impression that they have bent their own rules.

Another own goal!

The latest confusion comes on the back of the Motsepe Foundation Championship winners still to be confirmed, as Durban City are yet to be crowned despite finishing on top of the log. The promotion Play-Offs have also been postponed, after a draw had already been conducted and dates confirmed, until all the outstanding matters have been taken care of, a movie we've seen before!

SuperSport United, fighting for their lives trying to move away from the relegation zone as they looked set to finish the season in 15th position with a possibility of going to the Play-Offs staring them in the face, received a massive boost when the League announced that the remaining minutes of their abandoned game against Golden Arrows would be played today (Thursday). A game that was almost forgotten about as no decision had been made about what transpired that evening. For the uninitiated, this game was abandoned after loadshedding hit Lucas Moripe Stadium on February 23, with both teams having scored one goal each. The match was initially halted temporarily when scheduled loadshedding visited and the match officials allowed for the game to continue under natural lights until halftime. After further consultation, it was agreed that the game would be abandoned and that the League would decide the way forward. The events put a damper on coach Gavin Hunt’s 1000th professional game celebrations, as he was left high and dry with the game left unfinished.

Will Pirates also suffer similar Downs fate?

Now that Pirates have contributed 9 players to the national team, the same fate that befell Sundowns could visit the Soweto team at the end of the AFCON.

South Americans are very fragile

Last weekend we saw Orlando Pirates make history by becoming the first Carling Knockout champions to beat the All-Stars team, after both Magesi FC and Stellenbosch FC failed to do so in the previous two seasons. Pirates were forced to play without several of their regulars as they are in camp in preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou's charges beat coach Manqoba Mngqithi's team 2-0 to be crowned champions, for the second time in a week. Congratulations to Bucs as they close the year on a high note.
