MCILROY MAKES QUICK GETAWAY AFTER CLUB PROBLEMS SINK HOPES

RORY MCILROY arrived at the US PGA Championship saying a sixth Major win would be a “bonus” - but departed quietly having driven himself to distraction.

In his pre-tournament press conference, a carefree Mcllroy discussed not wishing to “burden” himself any further having finally achieved his dream of the career Grand Slam.

But his decision not to speak to the media after each of his four rounds hardly smacked of a man enjoying finally getting that monkey off his back.

Mcllroy opted for another quick getaway from Quail Hollow last night after finishing three-over-par, his worst display at the tournament since missing the cut in 2016.

Five weeks on from his dramatic Masters win, the different driver in. He wasn't driving particularly well, so he went back to his old driver and then took off and had great success.
