NEWS that the incident which left dozens of people injured and traumatised at Monday's Premier League victory parade was not terrorist related will be of scant comfort to those hospitalised.

Merseyside Police were quick to state this and give the public accurate and fast information about the driver of the car that careened down a city-centre street thronged with Liverpool fans, hitting and scattering them like ninepins.

This sharing of key details is in stark contrast to the same force's bungling over the description of the Southport massacre perpetrator Axel Rudakubana last year. Their mishandling of that situation contributed to seven days of national rioting.

So lessons must have been learned.

should have been said at the time of Southport.

“What we had yesterday was the police have begun to learn some of the lessons of what happened and that is a very good thing.”

Some 50 people were treated in hospital after the people carrier ploughed into groups of Liverpool supporters celebrating their Premier League win in the city on Monday.
