Bowie can be the star man for national team

SCOTLAND head coach Steve Clarke has handed Kieron Bowie a first call-up as he casts his selection net wider.

Hibs forward Bowie and West Ham midfielder Andy Irving are among seven uncapped players in Clarke's squad for friendlies against Iceland at Hampden on June 6 and Liechtenstein in Vaduz on June 9.

Rangers midfielder Connor Barron, Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller and left-back Josh Doig, fresh from winning the Serie B title with Sassuolo, are also looking for their debuts.

With first-choice keeper Craig Gordon injured, Angus Gunn returns from injury, while the uncapped Robby McCrorie and Cieran Slicker are also vying for the gloves.

Gunn will be a free agent this summer after Norwich declined to extend his contract.

Clarke also picked Sturm Graz right-back Max Johnston, Hearts forward James Wilson and Ipswich striker George Hirst, who have four caps between them.
