Na 58 jaar en drie maande moes Tokkie Botes haar man, Bennie, onlangs groet na hy op 25 Augustus oorlede is. Sy vertel hartseer hoe Bennie haar nog gesoengroet het voor hy inmekaar gesak het. "Hy was 79 jaar oud en die oorsaak van sy dood was van natuurlike oorsake.
Die paartjie het in 1965 ontmoet en is in 1975 getroud. Tokkie vertel sê sy glo die Here het hulle bymekaar gebring. "Sy pa was 'n pastoor in Mokopane en ek het daar by Hoërskool Piet Potgieter gewerk. Ek het een aand tydens 'n speletjiesaand by die kerk, gehardloop en oor sy voet geval en my been gekraak. Ek het gewoonlik werk toe gestap, maar met die gekraakte been moes ek van rygeleenthede gebruik maak. Bennie het by NTT gewerk en my verhuurder het hom aangesê om my werk toe te neem. So het ons mekaar beter leer ken."
