We need action on Gaza now

In a few months we will be approaching two years since the beginning of the current war in Gaza and I am sure you will have seen the horrible images on social media.

- BY PAISLEY MSP GEORGE ADAM

Two years have now passed, and the situation worsens with each passing day.

The Prime Minister however, has finally announced that the UK intends to recognise the State of Palestine, an announcement which comes on the day that the number of deaths reported passed 60,000, a truly horrific milestone.

But this does not go far enough, and it is far too late.

As of March 2025, the state of Palestine is recognised as a sovereign state by 147 of the 193 member states of the United Nations or just over 75 per cent of all UN members.

Britain has a historical link to this conflict with Palestine being a colonial possession until 1948 but British Government after British Government - whether they be Labour or Conservative - have failed to address the issues in the region in any meaningful way.
