Renfrew burgh flag was finally unfurled at the town hall in what has been described as a story almost four decades in the making.

- JACK THOMSON, LOCAL DEMOCRACY REPORTER

It comes after a call for it to be flown at the landmark in Hairst Street was agreed by elected members at a full meeting of Renfrewshire Council in June.

This follows years of campaigning from Renfrew Community Council which petitioned to matriculate the coat of arms to the group back in 1987.

Councillor John Shaw, an SNP representative for Renfrew North and Braehead, recognised the “indomitable spirit” of Effie McGachie who was chair of the community council for more than 30 years.

He said: “A story nearly 40 years in the making reached a fitting conclusion as the burgh flag was finally raised on Renfrew Town Hall, now established as the building's permanent third flag.
