Solar farm could be created on old landfill

A former landfill site could be transformed into a solar farm as part of Renfrewshire Council's efforts to generate green energy in the area.

The local authority has confirmed this week that it is carrying out initial research into the creation of a large-scale solar farm on Linwood Moss former landfill site.

The work is being carried out by the council's climate change team and also includes a probe into the viability of a wind farm in Renfrewshire.

Should the initial findings prove positive, a formal feasibility study into both projects will be carried out alongside a list of possible locations for both.

This would look at revenue generation, cheaper more efficient energy supply for council buildings and whether or not they would be best implemented by the public or private sector, or a partnership of both.
