PM Modi wraps up 'successful' visits to Japan, China. Departs from Tianjin for home

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up a "productive" two-nation visit to Japan and China where he attended 15th Annual India-Japan Summit on August 30 and the 25th SCO Summit in the Chinese port city of Tianjin today.

In China Prime Minister Modi also held bilateral meetings with the Presidents of Russia and China on the sidelines of the SCO Summit.

In a post on X Prime Minister Modi said he had emphasised India's stand on key global issues during the SCO Summit. He thanked President Xi Jinping of China for the successful holding of the summit.

"Concluding a productive visit to China, where I attended the SCO Summit and interacted with various world leaders. Also emphasised India's stand on key global issues. Thankful to President Xi Jinping, the Chinese government and people for the successful organisation of this Summit."

The two visits and meetings with President Putin and President Xi on the margins of the SCO Summit are significant as these come in the aftermath of US President Donald Trump's imposition of 50 percent tariffs against India and signal a shift in Asian geopolitics towards multilateralism and against US protectionism.

On August 29 Prime Minister Modi attended the India-Japan Economic Forum meeting and on August 30 the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
