Man fell on police officer's leg, causing it to 'snap'

A NOTTINGHAM dad broke a police officer's leg when he fell on it during a tussle in Ilkeston.

The officer “heard a snap” as he attempted to arrest Farrie Messan. Though it happened 10 months ago, such was the force of the impact he is still on light duties and is unable to go out on response patrols to incidents.

At Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court, the defendant, who works in nursing, received a suspended sentence order.

David White, chair of the bench, said: “We believe this is so serious it has gone into the level of a custodial threshold, but we are prepared to suspend it.”

Ruth Stirland, prosecuting, said officers were called to an incident in Lathkill Avenue, just after midnight on February 25, this year.
